And so it begins – two shows a month until Yule!

Paoli 2016 -Art in the Mill Park

2016 Paoli Art in the Mill Park

As we approach August, I am prepping for the show season to pick up. I have two shows in August. Visit me in Paoli and Fitchburg.

1) Art at the Mill Park in Paoli. 10 am – 5pm. This juried art fair is in a small shady park along the Sugar River and offers art, music, food and beverages.

Take the Beltline Highway to US-151 (Verona Rd.) South. Take US-151 South to the Co Hwy PB/M exit, EXIT 79. Take a left off the off ramp continue straight through the light at PB/M (as long as it is green) and continue until you reach the first stop sign. This is shortly after the “Paoli Unincorporated” sign. Turn Right and cross the bridge, the park will be on your right.

2) Agora Art Fair in Fitchburg. As a member of 14 South Artists I will be participating with 8 other members. This is a juried art fair that hosts 100+ area artists. Several musical stages will provide live music and food and drinks are available from Capital Brewery. Local restaurants provide additional fare.

From Highway 12/18 (AKA The Beltline) GO south onto CR-D/Fish Hatchery Road. Drive 2.3 miles to E. Cheryl Parkway and take a left. The Agora will be on your left; you’ll see the big white tent. Follow the attendants to parking.

See you there!

Art at the Mill Park Paoli 2016

Spring in Wisconsin

We have been looking forward to spring for a while and it snuck up on us as usual. After a lot of rain and cool weather, its finally beautiful.

I finished my only indoor Art fair on April fools day at Warner Park and am looking forward to the outdoor season.

Beading on the patio has begun. No bugs yet – not too hot. Perfect.

Look for Carnelian Sol Designs at Dragon Art Fain on June 03 in Deforest WI. Lots of new items including earrings, necklaces and new Bohemian bracelets. I have some Grateful Dead Bear earrings to showcase at this event!

Don’t miss it!

Big Plans for 2017!

Getting excited for 2017 shows!

Applications are going out fast. Here is a list of some of my favorite shows from 2016. Some I have already been accepted for 2017 and some are pending. Check back here as my list for fills out.

May 14-15 I hope to be participating in the Janesville Renaissance Faire for the first time. After doing A Gathering of Rogues and Ruffians Renaissance Faire last October I am ready for another historical event. Huzzah!

June 3rd – Dragon Art Fair in Deforest. I have been accepted as a returning juried artist for my 3rd season. It’s always fun and well attended. The weather is usually warm but not too hot and there is art, food and fun.

June 10th – New for 2017 – 14South Artists will host an Art Walk in Stoughton. Watch for more details as my location is firmed up!

July 2017 will be a month off for Carnelian Sol Designs art fairs and shows. After 6 years of hot July days, I will be using my time at home on the weekends to develop and create new designs! Its a great time to dye.

August will bring two really great juried art fairs!

August 12th is Paoli Art in the Mill Park. It’s a small event in an Oak Savannah that includes music and beverages with art. I have been an accepted juried artist for this show.

August 19th Agora Art Fair- This annual event is one that I have attended many years. It is in neighboring Fitchburg. Last year I sold jewelry to a shopper without a booth- she bought it off my neck. What luck! This year I hope to be a juried vendor at this show.

September is one of my favorite months for shows. The weather is usually fair and shoppers are starting to think about holiday gifting.

September 03- Sunday of Labor Day weekend is Art in the Park in New Glarus in conjunction with Wilhelm Tell Days. This is a juried art fair.  It’s in a lovely little park and this event has lots of community support.

September 10th I plan to do the Art at the Mart show at Ahuska Park in Monona. This will be my 6th year here. It runs concurrently with a popular farmers market.

October is my favorite month of the year. Huzzah!

October 14-15 will be A Gathering of Rogues and Ruffians in New Glarus at the Wilhelm Tell Grounds Park. Here my pavilion and I will be dresses in Renaissance Garb. Check out Pirates, Belly Dancers, Royalty and Merchant Guilds. This is my last outdoor show for the season.

November is a very busy month. I hope to do all of these shows again.

Geo’s Garden Holiday Vendor Fair- fund raising for a great cause,

Oregon Fire and EMT – It’s in my town and is a great fund-raiser for the local Fire and EMT Department.

December has two great shows the first weekend of the month.

The MOM – Middleton Outreach Ministry has a fund raising holiday show that benefits the food pantry.

Warner Park hosts a Holidayfest that is a Madison Parks and Recreation event.

Look for Carnelian Sol Designs at one of these in December!

Say Goodbye to 2016

Hello friends and family,

I hope you all had a happy Solstice, a wonder-filled Christmas and are enjoying Hanukkah and other holidays important to you.

It’s that time of year when Carnelian Sol Designs takes a couple months off from doing art fairs and shows. Time for relaxation and recovery.

I have big plans for the coming weeks. It’s time to tidy up my bead room and take care of finishing up 2016 business.

I am excited to make new ceramics pendants to use in my designs. I am looking forward to submitting jewelry to juried shows with my handmade ceramic pendants and beads.

I have been busy submitted applications for shows in 2017. Look for me at Warner Park Springfest on April 1st and at the Dragon Art Fair in DeForest on June 3rd.

I hope to participate in the Janesville Renaissance Fair in mid-May and will be applying as soon as the applications become available. I enjoyed the Gathering of Rogues and Ruffians so much in October I cannot wait to dress me and my Canopy in Renn Faire garb again!

Watch for new items and show information in 2017! Check my Events tab for more information too.

December Giving

December Giving

I was honored and proud to participate in the Middleton Outreach Ministry MOM – Creating for a Cause Art Fair.

20% of proceeds from sales were contributed to the Food Pantry. One of the fun things about this show is that it is held IN the food pantry. Shoppers get to see the warehouse and clothing store while making meaningful purchases.

20161203_091725 20161204_105509

The Food Pantry presented a few challenges as does every show. Flexibility is a skill. I was situated in the back corner of the warehouse. I was also given the opportunity to be the “official signer” for the grand prize contest. That was a great way to bring shoppers into my  booth. I was told the prize was a Million Dollars but I think it was a gift basket.

Another challenge at this event was the large number of jewelry makers. As the organizer reminded us, there are often more than one gas station on the corner. We all had different styles and I think my unique items translated into good sales.

Sunday we had our first big snowfall. I was envisioning a slow day as a result. To my surprise, Middleton community is very loyal. Attendance was great in spite of 4 or more inches of snow and I sold my most expensive items on Sunday morning.

This was my last big show for 2016. It leaves me with mixed feelings. The coming months will provide a respite and allow me to work on better web presence and to flush out some new designs I have been thinking about. But I already miss the excitement of planning for the next show!

One last show next Sunday at Firefly Coffee House in Oregon. Sunday December 11th from 9am-3pm. Stop in to say Hello!

November Frost- Harbinger of Winter

First Frost

It’s been a really nice November this year. I never imagined I would say that! It’s been unseasonable warm. What does that mean for Art Fairs?

It means I don’t have to haul my dolly through freezing rain or snow. YAY! The weather is nice for shoppers- but they want to be outside…..Most of all it means I can still enjoy our yard and outdoor activities and the winter will seem shorter.

This morning we had the first hard frost.

Fall Shows

In late October, I celebrated my 5th year at Oregon Fire and EMT Craft Fair. It’s in my town so it only takes 10 minutes to drive there. I had my usual spot and got set up right away. This is a well-attended show – even when the weather was beautiful. It’s really fun to see friends and neighbors at this event.

20161022_102128 20161022_102120

My first show in November was at Hilldale Mall in Madison. The organizer, Colin Murray, is delightful to work with. My space was in front of a closed store that had a pretty gray-blue covering on the windows. It was a really nice backdrop.

Saturday = Scarves on a pole
Sunday = goodies all in a row

I introduced a new item at the Hilldale show. I now am offering a set of 6 different note cards with photos I have taken of the sunset over Lake Superior. So many shoppers have commented on my business card photo that I am offering them a chance to enjoy them more.

Upcoming shows and more new items!

I have a new helper at the beading table….

I will have a series of shows coming up- every weekend until mid-December. Check out my events page for more details. At each show I will be introducing new items. I have new ceramics pieces and glass vials to hold precious collections. I have added compasses and sand timers to my selections – Its about Time, its about Space. Its about time to leave this space.

October Joy

Hooray! It’s my favorite month of the year. The leaves are changing, the weather is cool and less humid and it’s the start of my busy show season.

A Gathering of Rogues and Ruffians Renaissance Faire was a wonderful way to finish out the outdoor season. Set up was available on Friday and that gave me the opportunity to meet other vendors.

The weather could not have been better and attendance was great. I was proud of the way my art fair tent transitioned into a renaissance pavilion. This was a two day event so I got to get out several renaissance garb sets. On Saturday, I dressed as a pirate. I was participating in the Pirate Quest where kids come to booths on a scavenger hunt to collect beads. The clue for mine was my pirate flag. Greg joined the fun on both days.

20161008_101731  20161008_10105620161008_121002    20161009_101033 20161009_101149 20161009_105634facebook_1475974239210

The renaissance faire was followed up by my annual trip to Ontonagon in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We stay in a cabin on the shore of Lake Superior. I recommend these lodgings to anyone interested in the North Coast. Every night concludes with a beautiful sunset over the Porcupine Mountains to the west.

Now that we have returned, I will be loading up my Ford Escape for indoor shows. The seats come back out, the Canopy is packed away until spring and the dolly cart will be loaded instead.

My next show is in my home town- the Oregon Fire and EMT Craft Fair on Saturday October 22nd 9am-3pm at Oregon Middle School 601 Pleasant Oak Dr. This will be my 5th season doing the show and it is always well attended. This is the 22nd annual craft fair and all proceeds will be used for the enrichment of the Oregon Fire\EMS District volunteers through the purchase of equipment and training for the Firefighters and EMT’s.

Hey- the 22nd show on October 22!

I will be vending at a couple new shows for me this year. Watch for me in Hilldale Mall on November 5-6 Saturday 10 am- 9 pm & Sunday 11am-6pm and on Shop Small Saturday November 26th.

See you there! Feed Your Soul

Welcome September!

This is my absolute favorite time of year. All summer I wait for the cool fall weather to begin.

My show on September 11th in Monona started out at a brisk 59 degrees. How refreshing! Although it was only 4 hours long there is a popular Farmers Market there and attendance was great. What a lovely day and a fine show.

Now that my September shows are done, I have a little break to prepare for the Renaissance Faire I will be selling at in New Glarus on October 8-9. Huzzah.

Check out the home page to see a list of 2016 vendors including Carnelian Sol Designs and Betsy’s Beadworks!

I will have new Pirate and Dragon themed jewelry and Betsy makes beautiful beaded cameos of Fairies and others.

Late Summer Art and Craft Fairs

Its hard to believe we are into August.

Paoli Art in the Mill Park- one of my favorite summer events.

It’s hard to believe we are in August and I have already done some shows. On August 13th, I was fortunate to participate in Paoli Art at the Mill Park Art Fair. It was a humid morning and rained the night before so set up was wet, wet, wet. Fortunately, I was uphill from the standing water and the organizers brought in hay. It was a nice shady spot to enjoy the fair.

The day started out slow but really picked up as the sun dried everything. It’s a really fun gathering with live music and beer. Beer- it’s what Wisconsin Art Fairs need! Many shoppers browsed with glass in hand.

Agora Art Fair Fitchburg WI

Although I did not have a booth at this lovely event, I helped out at the booth for 14 South Artists. Here are some of our participants.

Although there was a little shower early, the day turned out lovely with a gentle breeze and the show was well attended.

Next up: Middleton Good Neighbor Fest August 27-28 at Middleton’s Fireman’s Park.

August Blog Post

Here we are in the last month of summer and its 90 degrees out today; typical. We are just past Lamas, the festival of the first wheat harvest.

Lammas is a “cross quarter” day occurring half way between the equinox and solstice; the “quarter days”. Others include Samhain- aka Halloween, Imbolc- aka Ground Hog Day and Beltane; aka Mayday. It’s interesting to me that our culture celebrates these holidays without the knowledge that they are rooted in medieval times.

Many people are familiar with Lammas bread from the Lord of the Rings. It is the bread made from the first wheat harvest of the season and sustains Sam and Frodo for much of their journey.

Lammas Bread

So August begins the last month of summer. For me, it means time to get busy for the upcoming show season. I have a couple really nice shows this month. Come see what’s new! Here is a sampling of new Pirates’ treasures necklaces and Bohemian Medley bracelets.

I am excited to participate in the Art in the Mill Park art fair on August 13th in neighboring community of Paoli. It is from 10am- 5pm. There will be music, food and beverages all to be enjoyed in a shady park along the Sugar River.

At the end of the month I will be in Middleton at their Good Neighbor Fest. It’s a two day art and craft fair on August 27-28 and is set in an oak savannah at Fireman’s Park. This is a large show with over 100 vendors. The annual fair offers music, food and beverages.

2015 Middleton Good Neighbor Fest Art and Craft Fair

Beginning with August shows, I will be bringing hand-dyed scarves to sell since we will be thinking about cooler weather coming. I cannot wait to roll out my new Shibori folded styles.
